Description

Cameron County IT Department is looking for an entry-level Security Analyst to join our growing IT Security Team, under the direction of the Chief Technology Officer and supervision of the Chief Information Security Officer. Daily tasks typically include the support on information security processes, monitoring of network anomalies and implementing cybersecurity safeguards to protect computer systems, networks, and data. Information security analysts are expected to stay up-to-date on the latest intelligence, including hackers' methodologies, to anticipate security breaches.

Role and Responsibilities

  • Monitor security logs, events, and statuses on security appliances. Performs routine updates and patches on datacenter hardware, network devices, and endpoints Maintain a general working knowledge of all security and in-house enhancements. Install, maintain and evaluate new releases of security software. Performs the same duties as the Communication Technician and Network Administrator as necessary. Performs security scans and remediation as required. Adheres to an off-hour stand-by or on-call status as required. Develop and maintain Incident response procedures for all platforms in the county. Compile and submit regular reports of NOC security environment status. Conduct periodic network monitoring and intrusion detection analysis to determine if there have been any attacks on the system Analyze network traffic to identify anomalies and test the information security controls for weakness. When malicious activity has been detected in the system, must act immediately to contain the activity and mitigate the damage. Facilitate forensics analysis to determine the source of the threat. Prepare various documentation including project reports, information security policies, user manuals, presentations, strategic and technical design and other related information on assigned application analyses. Maintain documentation for security operations and procedures. Design and implement new safeguards to protect computer systems, work with other IT teams to implement the new safeguards, whether it is in the form of software, hardware, or new operating procedures. Conduct research, and attend conferences, professional association meetings and technical symposia to gain awareness of the latest information security technological developments. Develop project timelines and identify project tasks and procedures. Performs other duties as assigned by the Chief Information Officer.
