Description

The statistician intermediate position provides the opportunity to work in the Study of the Environment and Alzheimer's disease and related Dementia (SEAD) working group at the University of Michigan in the Department of Epidemiology. This is a full-time research position to work with Drs. Sung Kyun Park and Kelly Bakulski and the team, focused on investigating the role of environmental exposures and neurological outcomes including Alzheimer's disease, dementia and cognitive functions. This individual will be working with data from large-scale administrative surveys (NHANES, Medicare) and human population-based cohort studies. The successful candidate will support high-dimensional data analyses to investigate risk of neurological disease, contribute to scientific papers and presentations, and assist collaborators with their projects.

Role and Responsibilities

  • Develop analytic plans and conduct data analyses in response to needs of the investigative team. This duty includes preparation of data for analysis; statistical analyses (linear and logistic regression, survival analysis); visualization and tabulation of analysis results; and interpretation of results. Write statistical programs (in R and/or SAS) for data preparation and analysis file creation. Prepare and maintain technical documentation for each step. Present results in regular team meetings. Perform data management, including regular quality control checking and resolving errors, updating datasets when new data available, recoding and creating new variables, handling skip patterns and missing data, and maintaining data codebooks. Annotate data management and analysis steps for full transparency and reproducibility. Draft methods and results sections for manuscripts. Collaborate in the development of presentations and posters for conferences and workshops. Consult with collaborators and team members to prepare data for analysis, implement research plans, and review code and results. Advise team members working on the projects and provide programming and data analysis support for team members including graduate students.
