Job description Job Description We are looking for a Data Scientist with a varied background to act in a consultant capacity for assessments of data science requests, including requirements gathering and expectation management. This position would be a good fit for someone interested in applying their knowledge across an extremely wide range of topics, advising and mentoring new data scientists, and designing and recommending both technical and workflow solutions. We expect the Data Scientist to conduct hands-on machine learning (i.e. existing model usage and training new models for custom needs) Familiarity with virtualized data science environment preferred. The Data Scientist will work primarily under consultative direction, develops and analyzes modeling and measuring techniques using inquisitive creativity along mathematics, machine learning, and statistical and engineering methods to discover many possible solutions to a given problem. Creates user friendly reports using various databases, programs, and scripts. Works with other teams in order to ensure connectivity between various databases and systems. Collaborates with others in order to develop solutions to problems and potential problems. Ad Hoc Tasking. Required Skills • Have prior experience with the Intelligence Community and methodological experience in some of the following areas: • Relationships and discovery ( correlating, enriching and prioritizing data about activity among actors, devices or facilities to enable the discovery of structure, roles, key relationships and targets) • Situational awareness (unifying data into a single context, allowing the current situation to be accurately and quickly understood) • Systems modeling (building a computational analog of a real-world system - political, military, economic, social or technical- to understand how it operates, what it is capable of, and how it may react to shocks) • Business analytics (supporting data-driven decisions about how we can improve the business of intelligence). • Experience working with different types of data (structured, unstructured, image, video, audio, speech, text, tabular, APIs, etc.) • Exposure to most of the following with expertise in at least one: • Traditional machine learning algorithms (Natural language processing, facial recognition, object detection, computer vision) • Neural networks. • Mathematics/statistics. • Big data. • Data visualization. • MLOps. • Building microservices, custom tools, and apps. • Knowledge of appropriate analytic methods and methodological tools in 1 or more of the following areas: • Applied mathematics (e.g. probability and statistics, multi variable calculus, linear algebra, ordinary and partial differential equations, stochastic processes, graph theory) • Computer programming (e.g., data parsing/ETL, artificial intelligence, machine learning, math/statistics packages, natural language processing, software versioning, distributed computing) • Visualization (e.g., dashboard creation, network analysis, GIS/geospatial analysis, telemetry analysis). • Python, git, SQL, Unix/Linux, and some of the following software/tools: R, Hadoop, Spark, Bash, Tableau, ArcGIS • Knowledge of research designs. • Intellectual curiosity: creativity and innovation to go beyond current tools to deliver the best solution to complex problems. • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills. • Ability to leverage multiple data management tools to organize relevant information and make decisions. • Ability to translate complex, technical findings into an easily understood narrative (i.e., tell a story with the data) in graphical, verbal, or written form. • Ability to multitask and change focus quickly as demands change. • Ability work collaboratively and effectively in a team environment. Desired Skills • Ability to develop comprehensive software applications, as needed. • Familiarity with project management concepts and principles. • Ability to establish and maintain internal and external professional networks including subject matter experts, collectors, and decision makers that are necessary to carry out tasks or projects. • Knowledge of collection methods, capabilities, and tasking process.
