Job Title: Associate Medical Coder Company: Optum Experience: 0 – 3 Years Location: Bengaluru Employment Type: Full-Time, Permanent Industry: Healthcare & Life Sciences Role Category: Health Informatics Job Summary: Optum is seeking a detail-oriented and certified Associate Medical Coder to accurately assign medical codes to patient records in accordance with ICD-10 and CPT-4 guidelines. The ideal candidate will ensure compliance, maintain coding accuracy, and contribute to efficient healthcare data management and reimbursement processes. Key Responsibilities: Accurately assign ICD-10 and CPT-4 codes to inpatient and outpatient medical records. Maintain 95%+ coding accuracy and adhere to departmental standards and schedules. Abstract and index clinical data for reporting, billing, and statistical purposes. Ensure compliance with HIPAA and internal confidentiality policies. Participate in coding meetings, audits, and educational sessions to enhance skills and accuracy. Collaborate effectively with medical staff, billing teams, and department heads. Meet productivity benchmarks and assist with quality assurance checks. Exhibit flexibility in working additional hours or varying shifts as needed. Required Qualifications: Graduate in any discipline. Certified Fresher or candidates with prior medical coding experience are eligible. Must hold a valid coding certification from AAPC or AHIMA — accepted certifications include: CPC (Certified Professional Coder) CCS (Certified Coding Specialist) CIC (Certified Inpatient Coder) COC (Certified Outpatient Coder) Candidates must present a valid certification ID during the interview or offer process. Preferred Skills: Strong knowledge of ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS coding systems. Familiarity with HIPAA compliance and US healthcare documentation. Basic understanding of DRG (Diagnosis Related Groups) and E/M coding. Attention to detail with strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Proficiency in medical terminology and anatomy. Good communication and teamwork abilities.
